Structure/Function

The inactive STAT1-alpha in the cytoplasm is monomer, but to response on IFN-gamma stimulation, STAT1-alpha phosphorylated form a stable homodimer (IFN-gamma activated factor : GAF). This dimer is capable of binding to a specific DNA sequence (IFN-gamma activated sequence : GAS) directing transcription.
